Check these first

These three steps fix most problems.

  1. Accessibility permission: In System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Accessibility, make sure Typeside is turned on. Without this permission, no features work.
  2. AI model:
    • Autocomplete, Improve, Translate, and Summarize need the on-device light model, which you download during setup.
    • Prompt, Shorten, Expand, and skills need an on-device general model or a cloud AI service.
  3. Restart: Click the Typeside icon in the menu bar, choose Quit Typeside, then open Typeside again. After you change permissions, a restart is sometimes needed for them to take effect.

Known limitations

  • Typeside doesn't work in password fields.
  • In some apps, such as web browsers, autocomplete suggestions or the quick edit button may appear slightly away from the cursor or the selected text.
  • Improve, Translate, and Summarize are designed for short text. Run them on long documents one paragraph at a time. If the text is too long, the result may stop partway.
  • The on-device general model can handle only a set length at once. If your text is longer, you see "This is longer than the on-device model can handle at once." Split the text, or use a cloud AI service.
